Unbound™ is campaigning to raise the standards of the property management industry. For too long, landlords & tenants have reported their property managers as being negligent, inattentive or unkind. This needs to change.

We vote for approachable, caring and friendly property management, and we’ve set out on a mission to prove that our job can be done efficiently while putting the focus back on people.

Our commitment

Unbound™ was initially founded by Matt & Flo as a response to unsatisfactory experiences with property management agencies, both in the roles of tenants, and landlords.

The idea was to create a new type of agency, which would bring the focus back onto the people that it was designed to serve.

How this reflects in our work

For the people

Every one of our stakeholders is considered as a member of our extended family. If you are working with us, we’ll get to know you personally, and will look after you accordingly.

People are the reason we first started working in this industry, and are therefore at the centre of our decisions. We work with landlords who care about their tenants, and choose tenants who care about their landlords.

Working smarter

Our team works 4 day weeks: this allows us to be better rested, focused & productive when we are at work. Within those 4 days, we encourage flexibility for our team. This helps us to keep our motivation up, and to better share our enthusiasm with you. This also ensures that we’re happy and willing to stay in the job for the long term, meaning that the person who knows your property best continues to look after it.

Doing things right

When challenges arise, we do everything we can to get things right and put a smile back on our customer’s or team’s faces. The number of tenancies that we manage having to go through the Tenancy Tribunal is much lower than the industry average. We’re convinced that everyone deserves to be treated with respect and kindness, and that most issues and conflicts can be solved with good listening and communication, and we prove it everyday. 

We have been blessed to see our small start-up grow into a full size company supported by a strong community. We’re grateful for each of our customers and feel that we owe it to the people who believe in us to stay true to our values and push for a better industry.

We vote for

We’ve noted three main reasons for landlords switching over to us to manage their property: they can never get a hold of their property manager, they are not receiving adequate care, or their property manager is unfriendly. Often, it is all three reasons at once that bring people to us. 

This has been accepted by many as the norm, when really, it shouldn’t have. We vote for change.

Approachable

Whether you own the property or live in it, you need your property manager to pick up the phone. We make sure that we are not only easy to reach, but also easy to talk to! It’s essential to us that our customers feel comfortable reaching out and receive prompt answers to their questions.

We service a smaller portfolio than most agencies, which allows us to give each customer the level of attention that they need. We remember that we work with people, and that our work directly impacts their life and sense of security.

Property management can be very challenging at times, so we do everything we can to look after our team and ensure that we stay healthy, and happy. From there, it’s easy: if we’re feeling good, and we’re happy doing what we do, it just naturally shows in our interactions.

Going beyond

Our responsibility goes beyond our line of work. By operating the way we do, we hope to have a notable impact socially, but also environmentally. We’ve put a lot of thought into operating with the smallest possible footprint and constantly challenge what we’re doing.

Caring for the planet

Property management involves a lot of driving, so it was only natural for our team to choose hybrids in order to minimize our emissions.

We’ve been paperless from day 1, all of our documents are signed and saved digitally. When we do print, we use recycled paper where we can. We always purchase local products where possible and are mindful of the packaging we use for postage.

For every rental that we bring on board, we plant a native tree in the region through the New Zealand conservation charity Trees That Count.

These are all small steps, but we are convinced that if every company did the same, our world could be a better place.

Moving forward

In the years that we have been operating, we have begun to see other companies pop up that are moving in the same direction that we have taken. This has been incredibly rewarding, and we are stoked to see the industry slowly heading towards a better future.
